Rist Canyon is west of Fort Collins...
my buddy Dan and his wife rented an
alpine cabin there in the '70s.

Being a lazy dazybones I
only drew half of this butterfly
in 1978. In 2009 I flipped the
image to add the other wings.

A mimic?

It's not a monarch..I think
it's one of those freeloading
butterflies with similar markings
to fool predators, but no
poisonous taste.

difficult to identify this
particular butterfly...I
caught it in Florida in 1978...
sketched it from life and
then, like the saint I am,
released it unharmed.
